The Van Isle Sailing Co-op is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sport of sailing, the cooperative ownership of boats, and introducing people to the sport of sailing. The membership fees and annual dues are used to maintain the boats and pay for moorage and insurance. You will have the opportunity to sail with experienced sailors and also to learn how to maintain boats at work parties. We offer something for everyone interested in sailing: If you never sailed before: Sailing experience is not needed to join the Co-op. New members will learn by crewing with experienced sailors, and you can get your sailing accreditation through local sailing schools while using co-op boats. If you know how to sail: You will have almost unlimited day sailing. Our current fleet consists of four Catalina 27's which are used for local, overnight and weekend cruising. During the year, one to three day Co-op cruises are organized for members to learn about the many great destinations in our own backyard. If you own a sailboat: Join as an associate and come along for local cruises and meet fellows sailors and potential crew. Cost For about the cost of one month of moorage, you can sail our boats for a year. Full membership is about $600 a year and if you own a boat associate membership is about $100 a year. There is also a one time fee to join the club. Sweat Equity Members must be willing to work, repair and clean our boats. Absolutely no out of area members are allowed, you must live inside the RD of Nanaimo. This is not a cheap way to charter, you must be available to work on our boats. No exceptions.
