14 year old paint pony, 14.1 hh. I purchased him from Ontario a year ago as I had ridden him once in the past. Really liked him. I have found that after owning him for a year, at my age I am not agile enough to continue riding and feel pretty vulnerable. He is a good boy. Does have the odd pony traits but when nervous, really contains his fears and keeps you safe. When I say he has the odd pony traits, I mean that if he wants to go in the direction he wants to go, he will give it a try but is easily redirected, with firmness. He does have to have a chain over his nose when you initially bring him in from the field but once you have finished with him for the day, whether it be riding or just grooming him, you don't need the chain anymore. This is one of the pony traits I am talking about. He needs at least an intermediate rider, due to his testing of his pony traits. He is gaited but he also does walk trot and canter. He is very smoothe. For some reason or another, he seems to have an intermittent stifle issue. 90% of the time he is sound then just out of the blue he is unsound due to the stifle issue, for a day or two then he is good to go again. I planned to do groundwork with him over cavelleties and fairly high jumps to make him lift his hind legs up but as I have C.O.P.D., I found working in the ring was too hard on my breathing. My vet knows about this issue and this is what she advised to strengthen up his hind end. So he needs someone who is willing to put the time in to get him sound. Apart from that he is a great little guy. In the short time I have owned him, I have taken him on numerous trail rides. Across the river and in the local Toy Ride. He is a great pleasure to own and I will feel very sad to let him go. Who ever decides to take him on, it will be with the agreement that I am able to keep in touch with how he is doing and maybe visit once in a while.
