I am a York University B.F.A. music graduate and Polaris Music Prize juror with 34 years of music industry experience. Beginners are welcome. Beautiful south end Nanaimo, BC location. Child-teens-adults. Pop, rock, blues, jazz. Rates $25 per half hour, $37.50 per 45 minutes. Group lessons are available. Biography: A professional jazz guitarist, instructor and music composer in the 90's in Vancouver, BC, Kerilie McDowall is a York University Bachelor of Fine Arts music graduate. Her area of study was New Music Composition and Classical and Jazz Guitar Performance. Kerilie has 15 years of guitar instruction experience and 34 years of music industry expertise. She began performing professionally in pop/rock bands in high school. McDowall performed regularly in Vancouver at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, music venues, festivals, parties and clubs and made appearances on TV, and radio. Active in the 1990s, McDowall's quintet and sextet was recorded and broadcasted by CBC radio's Hot Air. McDowall also spent time living In Europe and residing/composing in Toronto and New York City. She currently has a creative passion for teaching the guitar in addition to her work as a writer/music critic for DownBeat magazine. McDowall sits on the Polaris Music Prize jury and has judged the JUNO Awards for the past three years and judges the annual DownBeat Critics Poll. In 2016 McDowall won the Black Women & The Arts Awards Stiletto Woman of Distinction Award and was Nanaimo Magazine's Celebrity of the Month. She volunteer hosts and directs at SHAW Spotlight as a television volunteer and has hosted on SHAW 's Nanaimo's Community Producers and Coast Connections, and regularly interviews guests on The Show. As a volunteer she has directed television episodes on SHAW's Coast Connections since October 2017, as well as other SHAW Spotlight television productions.
