My name is Cory Parsons & I am an outgoing young man of 44 years old living independently in my own home here in Nanaimo. On a beautiful summers day 20 years ago in the town of Kelowna I mistakenly dove into shallow water breaking my neck & changing my life forever. Although my life has changed substantially I haven't allowed this to stop me from achieving my goals & I work very hard to live a positive & happy life everyday. I am very high functioning C5/C6 Quadriplegic & I use both an electric & manual chair for mobility. My van has been modified with hand controls & I am able to drive independently. As a person living with a disability I face many challenges in my everyday life & I make every effort to live as independently as possible & this is where your assistance is required. Your successful completion of the RCA/HCA program ensures your competence of the care related tasks but working in the private field requires compatibility between both parties. Due to the unique & detailed job description it is necessary to host an interview to give a better understanding of the tasks & working environment here in my home. The care related tasks would include, personal care, dressing, cleaning, meal preparation, medication allocation, laundry, etc.... All aspects of independent living in the home will be addressed & a willingness to work unsupervised, professionally, confidentially, & at your full potential is encouraged.
