Looking for a SEA (Special Needs Assistant) for our 13 year old son who is ASD and PDA. Position starts in the middle of January. 2-3 days a week. 3 weeks a month. $15-$25 hour depending on experience. Positions would be paid through his DL School, Self Design While he is high functioning and intellectually intelligent he struggles socially, emotionally and with Executive Functioning. The right person will be able to help keep him regulated, engaged in learning and help him become better socially and emotionally equipped. They are an out of the box thinker and able/willing to learn his needs. They need to be able to be kindly firm with him and not give in just so they don't have to deal with his behavioural challenges. The person needs to be able to do outdoor Nature Learning/ Adventures; Physically fit. They will need to follow how we parent him. Having training, skills, and experience with special needs children especially ASD is required. We will provide some Behavioural Intervention training/ knowledge and other resources. But said person NEEDS to have an understanding of how ASD children/ people function and think. This person would facilitate the learning plan we set forth. The Learning Plan includes such things as: Outdoor/ Wilderness Skills, Self Sufficiency Skills, Learning about his Heritage, Math, Art and Environmental Studies. Duties include: 1. Helping him learn in ways he can connect with, as he is not a "book learner". Alternative, interactive, hands-on and environment learning is needed. 2. Helping him learn better social interaction. 3. Helping him with Executive Functioning Skills 4. Caring for him and his needs in our house and the community. 5. Maintaining cleanliness and order in our house during shifts. *About our son: - extremely talented musician (drums, keyboard, guitar, bass) - talented sketch artist - loves music, especially grunge, rock, metal, folk and punk - loves all animals, especially cats and seals - loves imported and vintage cars - very chatty. Loves to make new friends and talk endlessly about his interests.
