This assembly could be used as a staircase or horizontal railing . The materials consist of a 4' 3" - 3.5 inch square stair newel post , which is notched at 3' 7" .. a 3' 7" half stair newel post .. both the handrail and the shoe rail's are 85 1/2 " .. and 11 - 1 3/4 " - 36 inch square cut spindles . Four more spindles would be needed to complete this span if the present shoe rail design is used . This colonial style woodwork has been meticulously milled to accent the grain of the wood . A very solid set in very good condition .
