Gap bed lathe with the factory "metal kit" that allows you to do metal work. Essentially it's a cross slide with rocker tool post mounted. No you won't be building parts for the space shuttle with it, but it has been incredibly useful. With the gap I've machines axle hubs, and 36" between centres I've used it to build driveshafts, and loads of bushings. Like any lathe it can be accurate if you're careful, and take light cuts. Doesn't have a ton of power so it's hard to hurt yourself too badly, and crashes aren't as scary as on a big lathe, so it makes for a good learning tool.
