I need to downsize and have decided to part with my lovely flock of Partridge Chanteclers. This Canadian heritage poultry breed is listed as endangered by Rare Breeds Canada. Originally called the "Albertan" by the man that developed them (Dr. Wilkinson) who wanted a bird that could with stand harsh winter temperatures, not have wattles and combs freeze (hence button comb and reduced wattles), that would lay in winter and be a true dual purpose bird. They were later renamed Partridge Chantecler because of the similar look to white Chanteclers. My flock is a mix of various lines that I have been working on for several years. The hens are inconsistent in size reflecting the different lines. The rooster is a very good show quality bird. Price is based mostly on the 4 hens under one year old that just started laying this March ($35 each) and $12 each for 5 or 6 hens under 2 years of age. Laying well. The rooster and a few older hens are free. Preference will be given to person interested in entire flock. Located in Chemainus.
