$985 · *RESTORED* 1973 Dual 701 Turntable Germany Direct Drive

Dual 701 Direct Drive Turntable manufactured in Germany circa 1973 This classic has been fully professionally restored for 2025 including replacement of capacitors, installation of new steuerpimpel, full disassembly, cleaning and relubrication of auto mechanism, calibration as per service manual, etc. It is now in perfect working order, just the same as when it left the factory in the 1970s and it is ready for many more years of reliable performance! The 701 is widely acknowledged as being one of the very best turntables ever produced by Dual, featuring a whisper-quiet direct drive motor, heavy platter, excellent speed stability, low mass tonearm compatible with a wide range of cartridges, plus the thoughtful engineering, build quality and aesthetics which made Dual famous. It was an impressive achievement in 1973 and has remained popular over the half-century since - because its performance far exceeds what any 21st century consumer-grade turntable can offer. Cosmetic condition is 'excellent, used': In beautiful shape for its 50 years of age, with no significant damage, but showing some minor signs of age such as scratches to the top of the dust cover. Includes installed ADC XLM II moving magent phono cartridge. Available to see and hear at your convenience! ------------------------ Description from Dual's advertising: The Dual 701 is the quietest turntable ever made. Not only in our judgement, but in that of the first independent test laboratory to evaluate its performance. This has been accomplished by an entirely different kind of motor, designed expressly for the 701, and a very innovative approach to the problem of resonance. Instead of the familiar, high speed AC motor, the 701 has an all electronic, low speed motor, with feedback-controlled speed precision. Because this motor rotates at the record speed, 33 1/3 or 45rpm, the need for speed reduction systems such as friction idler or rim belt is eliminated. Instead, the platter is rotated directly by the motor, and the record spindle is the top of the motor shaft. The 701 motor is so quiet and free from vibration that it does not require any isolation mounting, but is mounted directly to the chassis. Specifications Platter: non-magnetic, dynamically balanced, detachable 2.9kg Platter speeds: 33.33 and 45rpm, electronically adjustable Pitch control: 10% separate for both speeds, each adjusted by means of variable resistor, with calibration scale Speed control: with illuminated stroboscope Wow and flutter: < 0.03% Rumble: < 50dB unweighted Tonearm: torsionally rigid, tubular tonearm in low-friction four-point gimbal suspension, tonearm counterbalance with two mechanical anti-resonance filters
