This beautifully preserved oak banker’s chair is an authentic piece of Canadian industrial heritage, manufactured by Gilson Manufacturing Co. Limited, based in Guelph, Ontario. Known for producing high-quality office fixtures in the early to mid‑20th century, Gilson was a leading name in tilting and revolving office chair design. The company, originally founded in the 19th century and expanding to Guelph in the early 1900s, became well known for its durable mechanisms and solid craftsmanship. From the 1920s through the 1960s, Gilson manufactured a range of commercial seating and home appliances before the factory closed in 1977. Chairs like this one were a staple in Canadian banks, offices, and courtrooms. This particular chair is in excellent working condition: • The swivel and height-adjustment mechanisms are still fully functional. • Constructed from solid oak with a warm, rich grain and graceful curved arms. • The original manufacturer’s label is still affixed to the underside, reading: “Gilson MFG CO LIMITED – MFRS. of Tilting and Revolving Office Chair and Stool Fixtures – Guelph, Ontario, Canada.” No chips, cracks, or paint—this is a clean, unrestored piece that maintains its vintage character. ***Please Note the casters on the bottom of the chair have been replaced - they are now plastic - and this reflects in the price **** A fine example of Canadian mid-century office design, this chair would be ideal for collectors, design lovers, or anyone looking for a stylish, sturdy statement piece with a story.
