Pioneer SX-680 AM/FM Receiver / Amplifier with Phono input. First introduced in 1978. Manufactured in Japan. This beautiful Pioneer has been restored to "like new" functional condition, it sounds as great as it did when it left the factory in 1978, and is ready to serve reliably for decades to come! 1970s Pioneer receivers are famous for their aesthetics and reliability - the SX-680 is no exception. With the combination of features, functionality and ergonomics which have kept Pioneer a perennial favourite, this stereo receiver offers 30 watts per channel of undistorted output power. Retail price in the 1979 catalogue was $239.00 USD That is equivalent to over $1,400 in today's dollars! This unit has been fully RESTORED and UPGRADED beyond factory specs! Electrolytic capacitors have been replaced and upgraded to higher voltage ratings to ensure longevity. Unreliable transistors and diodes replaced with superior equivalents. All controls, switches and contacts meticulously cleaned and reconditioned, etc. Further upgraded with LED lighting which runs cooler, draws less power and lasts forever compared to the original incandescent bulbs which ran hot and required frequent replacement. The LED bulbs are of the "warm white" variety which maintains the original vintage aesthetic. Option to install blue LEDs for a more modern look if you prefer (+$20 charge). Features AM/FM tuner with excellent selectivity. Stepped tone controls disengage when in middle position. Integrated phono preamp for playing vinyl records and AUX input for connecting Bluetooth etc. The sound is clear, warm and musical.
