I have been teaching in Nanaimo for over seven years, and offer lessons for piano (beginner to advanced) and ukulele (beginner to intermediate). I also offer beginner instruction for those interested in using synthesizers and organ; while similar to the piano, each of these instruments require a different approach, and I thoroughly enjoy discussing these nuances with my students. I have my diploma in jazz performance from VIU, have done years of study with the Royal Conservatory of Music, and have put many students through RCM exams (all students have received honours marks or higher). I believe in teaching strong musical foundations (sight reading/singing, ear training, and rhythmic versatility) by using each student's specific musical interests and skills as a foundation. My ever-expanding knowledge of music theory has allowed me to have boundless appreciation and enjoyment for all styles of music; it is my goal as an instructor to impart this information and joy to my students. Whether it's following the Royal Conservatory methods of learning, improvising over chord progressions, or even just learning your favourite song; I hope to use my wide variety of playing experience to help you become a better player, using whatever genre or method is best for you/your child, and incorporating all-around musicianship in the process.
