Includes original cardboard shipping box and packaging. This instrument belonged to a young man from Ladysmith B.C. who went off to fight in WWI (1914-1918) but never returned. It was kept by his siblings in remembrance of him, until none from that generation remained. The "harp guitar" is a unique instrument which enjoyed some popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries especially in North America. It is a close relative of the zither and bears little actual resemblance to a guitar. This example was manufactured by the 'Harp Guitar Manufacturing Company' of Boston, Massacheusetts and shipped from their west coast warehouse in Portland Oregon. It was ordered by catalogue and delivered to Ladysmith C.O.D. at a price of $20 (equivalent to ~$650 in 2025 dollars) It has been in storage for more than 100 years, and while it does appear to be functional and undamaged it will require a new set of strings and attention from a luthier before it can be considered reliable for daily use. Includes sheet music and tutorials. Includes antique thumb pick. Includes original shipping box.
