Water is our most precious resource today and so it's no surprise protecting it has become top priority, but as a property owner with a well does one know what their responsibilities are? Longer, hotter summers along with land development has resulted in a surge in pump & well business at Vortech. Clients are coming to us with depleted wells during the summer months and at times even during the wet season. We are busy changing out pumps & drive systems, installing cisterns, rain water harvesting as well occasionally shallow wells to meet our clients demands. The question regularly now surfaces from clients "what's our responsibility as a private well owner"? Well owners need to protect themselves from aquifer contamination and potential litigation. The Province of British Columbia as well the BC ground water association stipuates anyone who works on a well system must have their pump installers certification and be registered with the Province. If you are unregistered and work without direct supervision you are in contravention of the WSA and may be subjected to fines and litigation. So how do you protect yourself as an owner? Hire ONLY a certified pump installer to work on your system and ALWAYS ask to see the technician's certification on site prior to commencing work. This is your only insurance and what you pay for as a consumer. We are seeing a lot of hazardous and poor installations out there and from companies who may have only 1 ticket on staff but are dispatching uncertified and often poorly trained staff to perform technical work. An oil leak from a pump or poor procedures where a component of the install comes in contact with ground contaminants such as animal feces can very quickly introduce contaminants and fecal coliform into the water system passing through to neighboring aquifers and wells. There's so many risks associated with an installation most are simply unaware. People are very litigious these days and aquifers and drinking water is no exception. The day of installing your own system or asking a friend or neighbor to assist is disappearing as people learn the potential risks. At Vortech we have 3 fully certified pump installers on staff with 70 years of combined experience. You're protected when retaining our services. Our mission is simple...protect our aquifers and water systems and provide qualified expertise to our clients. We care about the environment and as such place great focus on technician competency.
