These four Gretsch drums date from the mid 1970’s, having the first stop sign badge with the slogan “That Great Gretsch Sound”. The drums are: 4247 bass drum 22” x14” 4416 tom 13” x 9” 4420 tom 14” x 10” 4418 floor tom 16” x 16” All the drums are finished in Red Rosewood. On 14” and 16” toms the finish is in excellent condition for nearly 50 year old shells. However the 13” tom shows quite a lot of fading, and there is a slightly faded area on the bass drum. All the toms have the original cast hoops and both the upper and lower internal dampers. The bass drum has the original internal felt adjustable damper. As seen in the pictures the drums have had some alterations. The 13” tom has had the mount removed and the holes filled. The 14” tom has a more recent (sturdier) Gretsch mount. The floor tom appears to have once been adapted to use as a bass drum, as there are a number of holes where it would appear that spurs were previously mounted. The bass drum has a newer Gretsch tom mount, plus a mount intended for a cymbal L arm. The original spurs have been replaced with much sturdier modern ones. To my ears these changes have done nothing to alter the “Great Gretsch Sound”. All the drums have good condition heads, and they tune up well and sound amazing. These are not for a collector, but if you are looking to get to play a great sounding Gretsch set from the period then this is your chance to do so at a reasonable price. I am selling these drums for a friend who is downsizing his playing collection. I understand that he has owned these drums for around 30 years. The bass mounted tom arm, floor tom legs, and the snare stand supporting the 13” tom are all included.
