The Mother cow is a Jersey/Red Dexter cross that gives rich milk and healthy beef offspring. She is on her third freshening at 5 1/2 years old with a 9 month old still nursing steer at her side. He is 3/4 Dexter and black in colour and is ideal for growing out for beef. The Mother cow, being half Dexter, is very good with her food and likes grass pasture and to browse on scrub bushes and blackberries. She has always calved very easy, never needing any intervention. With the Dexter cross, milk fever is not a great worry as with pure Jersey, yet the milk is of high quality and high butterfat. Mother cow is the daughter of SSI organic dairy breeder's herd and her A2/A2 genotype mother was sourced as newborn as our original registered Jersey dairy cow. Mother cow is very well behaved, easy to manage and used to living with other animals, people and dogs. She has been hand milked on our farm with good quality hay or alfalfa in her trough, although she would love grain as well. They can be sold separate now and she is ready to be bred again. Can be delivered to Parksville/Qualicum area. Halter trained and loads easily. Price is $1,600 for Mother cow and $800 for steer.
